Dear 5K Families,
Mrs. Katnani’s Notes
The first week of school has flown by and what an exciting, albeit hot, adventure it has been! All of our Friday newsletters will be posted on this blog. The newsletter will let you know how things are going in the classroom. It will include important news and dates as well as miscellaneous information regarding 5K. My goal in sending families the Friday newsletter is to give you an inside look at the hustle and bustle of our classroom! I will admit, however, I do miss a few weeks here and there when life happens, but I try my best!
Review of This Week
-Misc: This week, we spent a lot of time reviewing expectations and procedures. We did a scavenger hunt in the classroom to get to know our “daytime home” a little bit better. We also discussed what it means to have a growth mindset and are working on our 5th grade goals.
-Math: We have just started Unit 2: Whole Number Place Value and Operations. We go a bit out of order, but no worries; we will return to Unit 1!
-Science: We have begun Chapter 1, Properties of Matter. Students have completed two labs to help them practice describing properties and identifying objects based on their properties
-.S.S. Archaeology! Students are really enjoying the archaeology unit. Today they received their pots and began decorating. They are really looking forward to “Smash Day!” More to follow on that next week…
Important Dates
Archaeology Project - Box or bin of soil/sand due Tue 9-11
Curriculum Night Wed 9-12 6:30-7:30
Fact Test – Fri 9-14
Bike to School Day Fri 9-21
Picture Day Thur 9-27
Miscellaneous
Have a wonderful weekend and thank you for all of your support!
