Mrs. Katnani’s Notes
Over the past couple of weeks, we have been talking a lot about kindness during our class meetings. We’ve discussed what being kind looks like, why it is important, and how it makes us feel. Today students were introduced to a Kindness Assignment that will be due the Wednesday of Thanksgiving week, so they should have plenty of time to complete it! Each student received a Kindness Bingo mat with 24 random acts of kindness. The assignment is to complete all the random acts of kindness on their Bingo Mat!
Review of This Week
Math – This week we finished our study of volume. Students converted cubic measurements, a tricky skill for 5th grade! Ask your 5th grader if they can tell you how many cubic feet in a cubic yard. They may need to draw a picture to find the answer. We also found the volume of irregular shapes made of a combination of rectangular prisms.
Social Studies – This week we finished reading about the Inuit tribe. Students have been working on their Inuit speech bubbles, which describe the migration and environment, natural resources, and adaptations of the Inuits.
Science – We finished physical changes this week and have moved on to chemical changes! Today, students did a lab with salt, sugar, baking soda, water, lemon juice, and vinegar. Can you guess which combinations had a chemical reaction? Check with your 5th grader to see if you guessed correctly!
Writing – We continue to work on our archaeology paragraphs. We are also working on our Inuit paragraphs during writing time.
RTI - We started RTI this week! This is a 30 minute period of time three times a week during which students get more practice in reading and writing.
