Mrs. Katnani’s Notes
I cannot believe it is November already! October has certainly flown by! 5K had a busy week this week! On Wednesday, we had a day full of Halloween celebrations. We began with a Mystery Science Experiment, during which we experimented with “magical” potions to see if any of them could make our pennies shinier! Ask your 5Ker which magical potion worked…. In the afternoon, we had our classroom celebration organized by our fantastic room parents! 5Kers decorated pumpkins, created spider webs, made toilet paper mummies, and played some Halloween themed games! A giant thank you to our volunteers and our room parents!
Review of This Week
Math - This was a week of testing! We began the week reviewing for our test. Tuesday and Friday we took the 4-part test… Yes, 4 parts! On Thursday, students took their very first CML. A handout explaining the CMLs went home recently. It was a lot of hard work, but 5Kers pulled through and persevered!
Science - We really dove into chemical reactions this week. We talked about chemical equations and related them to math equations. Students learned the Law of Conservation of Matter. This can be a tricky concept, so we will definitely spend more time on it next week!
Social Studies - We finished with Chapter 2 this week! Students played a Kahoot game to review the chapter and took the open-book assessment for homework on Thursday. This is an assessment that they are allowed to ask for help on, so feel free to help them if you see they are struggling!
Writing - We are still finishing up our archaeology paragraphs. Some students had online conferences through the use of Google Docs. They share their document with me and I write comments for them to go back and look at. This helps with time when we do not have enough time to do face-face conferences.
HEF Spelling Bee - Sun 11-4 5th Grade (4:30-6pm - Updated Time)
School Picture Make-Ups & 5th Grade Class Pictures – Tue 11-6
Early Release – Wed 11-7 11:30 (No lunch served)
Movie Night - Fri 11-9 (permission slips will come home Monday)
Veterans Day - No School - Mon 11-12
Just a reminder that when a student is out, their make-up work will be sent home as indicated on the make-up work letter that was sent home in September. If your child is absent and you have a different make-up work plan, please let me know via e-mail. Keep in mind that we always try our best to get the make-up work home on the same day, but unfortunately, sometimes time does not allow us to gather everything before the day is over.
Halloween pictures! I would love for the kids to share what they were for Halloween next week! If you could e-mail me one picture of your 5Ker dressed up, I will share it with the class. If they are uncomfortable sharing, no worries! They always have the option to pass when we share.
Have a fantastic weekend!
