Mrs. Katnani’s Notes
5K has had a good week! Students are becoming more comfortable with each other, and I am starting to feel the beginnings of our “classroom family” develop. Students are forming new relationships and strengthening the bonds they had prior to the beginning of the year. I would encourage students to follow through on new and old relationships in school (during appropriate times of course!) as well as out of school.
Review of This Week
-Math – This week we extended our learning of measurements to include volume! Students learned that volume is the amount of space taken up by an object. Ask your 5Ker which 3D shape is best for measuring volume and why. They should report that a cube is best because it fits together nicely without having any gaps or overlaps!
-Science – We dove deeper into solids, liquids, and gases. Students should know that solids have a definite shape and volume, liquids have a definite volume, but not shape, and gases have no definite shape or volume.
-Social Studies – We finished up our study of geography. Students played a Kahoot (remember curriculum night?) to help them review what we have learned in this chapter.
-Miscellaneous – Today we had a special guest reader in our room to help us read Amal Unbound (our current read aloud book). The guest reader was……… Dr. Wilcox! Students really enjoyed having her in our classroom!
Fact Test – Thur 10-18
Scholastic Orders due Wed 10-24
Fall Fair – Sat 10-27 11:00 - 3:00
Unicef Boxes due Fri 11-2
Today we talked about Trick-or-Treat for Unicef. We watched a video on the history of the program as well as a video on the impact it has on children around the world. We discussed the importance of giving back and that this is one option that helps us do that. 5Kers should be bringing their boxes home today. This is not a requirement.
We also talked about Scholastic and students received their first set of catalogs. These orders are due by Wed 10-24. Online ordering is the easiest. If you have never ordered online, go to the website below, under parents click get started, enter our class code: LMK6Y.
Have a fantastic weekend!
