Mrs. Katnani’s Notes
I hope everyone had a pleasant Thanksgiving break! I know I definitely ate way too much! L The students came back refreshed and ready to learn (albeit a little sleepy!) on Monday. It has been an interesting week for 5K this week. I was supposed to be out on Tuesday due to a Computer Science training, but ended up being out sick for two days instead! Then I was out one morning for a science curriculum meeting. We had three different guest teachers and all had wonderful things to say about 5K! Well done! The grading period ended today and report cards will come home one week from today.
Review of This Week
Math - This week in math we worked with “fraction of” problems. Students did quite well on these and I am excited to see how they do on Wednesday’s test. Their understanding of fractions has come a long way!
Science – We took our test on Topic 2: Changes in Matter. These tests should come home early next week for a signature. They will count for 1st grading period.
Social Studies – We finished Chapter 4 by reading about four important events in history that led to the age of exploration (which will be our next chapter!).
Writing – Students spent a lot of time writing this week. They finished their Inuit projects and started their next independent writing assignment, the Explorer Essay. In this assignment they will write a journal entry from an Explorer who has just returned from the New World!

How is Battle of the Books going? Students meet with their groups every month to check in and plan who is reading what. Students should be reading their Battle of the Books books as independent reading books and taking notes on their notes sheets. These notes sheets are crucial as it is difficult to remember details in April/May if you read the book in November!
