Mrs. Katnani’s Notes
I enjoyed seeing so many families on Curriculum Night this week. Once again, thank you for visiting our classroom, and thank you for your support. I think the students did a marvelous job with their presentations; it’s not easy to talk in front of a room of adults, and I am proud of all of them! I hope you left knowing a little more about the 5th grade curriculum!
Review of This Week
This week, we really began to dig our heels into the curriculum!
Math: We continued our study of place value and exponents and began practicing U.S. Traditional multiplication.
Science: We learned about various properties that can identify substances, including solubility and magnetism!
S.S. 5Kers really enjoyed smashing their pots and burying the pieces in their boxes of dirt! Most of us have created the grid on our box using yarn and tape and have switched boxes with a partner. Now we are digging, cleaning, and gluing back together!
Writing: We began writing this week with an overview of the three types of writing – expository, persuasive, and narrative. We will begin the year with expository writing!

Every year, I ask for a donation of cleaning supplies. In order to stay healthy, we try to clean our desks, chairs, and other surfaces once in a while. This is especially important once cold and flu season begins. Clorox (or similar-brand) cleaning wipes would be most useful as well as hand sanitizer. Of course, donations are optional, but would be much appreciated!
Have a wonderful weekend, and thank you for your support.
